THE A. G. GASTON AWARD – Dr. A. G. Gaston was named entrepreneur of the century by Black Enterprise Magazine. He founded many successful businesses, employing hundreds and made tremendous, long lasting contributions to his community and his country. This award is presented to a person whose legacy lies in helping others.
THE LOUIS J. WILLIE AWARD – Louis Willie was a longtime Gaston employee who rose to the position of President of two of Gaston’s companies, Booker T. Washington Insurance Company and Citizens Federal Bank. Louis Willie spent more than 40 years working in the Gaston Enterprise. Louis Willie valued education and business ethics. This award is presented to a member of Birmingham’s business community who is enterprising and who has great integrity.
THE CARRIE TUGGLE AWARD – Ms. Tuggle started the Tuggle Institute in Northwest Birmingham. This was a practical institute for the education and rehabilitation of orphans and any other Negro children who needed a home. It became noted for its realistic program of training youth. This is where A.G. Gaston received his early education. This award is presented to an outstanding educator.
THE SEBRON EDWARDS AWARD – Mr. Edwards was Dr. Gaston’s first role model. He was the first person to finish high school in his hometown and clerked at a local Negro owned grocery store. To A.G. Gaston, he was the height of education and success. This award is presented to a pioneer entrepreneur.
THE AFTON LEE AWARD – Afton M. Lee, Sr. was one of Birmingham’s most successful business owners. His enterprise included vast real estate holdings and his prowess as a merchant helped shape an entire community. This award is presented to a successful entrepreneur.
THE OSCAR ADAMS AWARD – Mr. Adams owned the Birmingham Reporter and became A.G. Gaston’s role model during his late teens. This award is presented to a pioneer in the professional services arena.
THE MINNIE GASTON AWARD – Mrs. Gaston started a business school to help minorities with no skills get jobs. This award is presented to a community leader whose legacy lies in helping others.
THE JAMES BRYAN AWARD – Rev. Bryan was a minister who supported Tuggle School. This award is presented to a pioneer in the religious community

THE ARTHUR SHORES AWARD – Attorney Shores, a leader in the civil rights movement, served on the board of Citizens Federal Savings Bank and was A.G. Gaston’s long time confidant. This award is given to a young trailblazer.
